The EZGO RXV is a 48V cart with an AC drive motor, regenerative braking and an electromagnetic parking brake and all three of those matter for a lithium conversion in ways they don’t on a TXT. The swap itself is straightforward: the RXV tray accepts a standard 48V drop-in pack. What trips people up is the RXV’s habit of staying electrically awake when parked, which can run a lithium pack down to its BMS cutoff and leave the cart locked. Step 1: Which RXV Do You Have?

All lead-acid RXVs are 48V with four 12V batteries, so there’s no voltage question as there is with the TXT. The serial plate is under the passenger-side glovebox; the letters tell you the model and the digits the year. Step 2: What You Need to Buy
- One 48V lithium pack, 100–150Ah. The RXV tray takes the standard ~20″ × 12.5″ × 9.5″ pack; nearly every 48V drop-in lists the RXV by name. - For the RXV specifically, favour a pack with a 200A or higher BMS and a Bluetooth app: the app lets you watch the parked draw described below.
- A 48V lithium charger with the RXV 3-pin plug. This is not the same plug as the TXT48, even though both are round three-pin connectors the keying differs. Order a charger or kit that says “RXV” explicitly. 48V lithium chargers with the RXV plug.
- A 48V-to-12V reducer if the cart has lights, horn or a stereo the Pro Chaser 30A is the usual pick. Wire it key-switched on an RXV (see reducer guide) so it doesn’t add to the parked draw.
- Hold-down hardware. The RXV tray has a hold-down bar for the four 12V batteries; it usually needs spacers or a strap to secure a single pack.
- A lithium meter if your pack has no display the factory RXV gauge reads a lead-acid curve. Lithium-calibrated meters.
Step 3: The Conversion, Step by Step
Time: 1–2 hours. Tools: 1/2″ and 9/16″ wrenches or sockets, wire brush, safety glasses, a helper for lifting.
- Run/Tow switch to TOW. On the RXV it’s under the seat on the driver’s side. Key off, key out. TOW releases the electromagnetic brake and disconnects the controller the cart will roll, so chock a wheel.
- Photograph the wiring, especially the main positive and negative and any accessory taps.
- Disconnect the main negative first, then the main positive. Tape the ends.
- Remove the series jumpers and lift out the four batteries (about 65 lb each).
- Clean the tray. Neutralize acid residue with baking soda solution, rinse, dry, wire-brush any rust.
- Set the lithium pack with terminals toward the main leads, and secure it with the factory bar plus spacers, or a strap, before connecting anything.
- Connect main positive, then main negative, torqued to the pack manufacturer’s spec.
- Wire the reducer if fitted fused input, key-switched.
- Wake the pack if it shipped in sleep mode (button, app, or a brief charger connection).
- Run/Tow to RUN, key on. You should hear the brake release click when you press the accelerator. Test drive slowly, then plug in the charger and confirm it starts.
RXV-Specific Notes: Read These
The parked draw and BMS cutoff
An RXV in RUN mode keeps its controller and brake circuit powered even with the key off. The draw is small owners with battery apps typically report a few hundred milliamps but it’s continuous. With four lead-acid batteries this was invisible; with a lithium pack it means a cart parked for several weeks at a low state of charge can hit the BMS low-voltage cutoff. When that happens the pack disconnects, the electromagnetic brake locks, and the cart is immobile until the BMS is woken and charged.
Three habits prevent it: charge after use rather than before; switch to TOW for storage longer than a week or two (TOW cuts the controller draw chock the wheels, since it also releases the brake); and if you have a pack with an app, glance at the state of charge before leaving the cart for a while. Regen braking on a full pack
The RXV’s AC drive regens hard on downhills. Every golf cart lithium BMS accepts regen current, but a pack at 100% at the top of a long descent can briefly hit its charge ceiling and the BMS will refuse the current you’ll feel the engine braking drop out for a second. It’s not a fault. If you live on a hill, charge to 90% for daily use; most apps allow a charge limit.
The RXV plug
The RXV’s three-pin receptacle looks like the TXT48’s but the keying is different; a TXT48 charger plug won’t seat properly, or seats and doesn’t make full contact. Sellers list “EZGO RXV” as a separate plug option choose it. Adapter cables exist if you already own a charger with the wrong plug.
The dash gauge
The RXV’s factory state-of-charge display is calibrated for lead-acid. With lithium it will sit high for most of the ride and drop quickly at the end. Use the pack’s app or an external meter for a true reading. A common owner trick is to note what the factory gauge shows when the app says 20% and treat that as “empty.”
RXV ELiTE: Replacing the Factory Lithium Pack
ELiTE models shipped with a Samsung SDI lithium pack that communicates with the cart’s controller and dash. When those packs fail out of warranty, owners replace them with a standard 48V aftermarket pack.
It works electrically the cart runs on 48V and doesn’t need the communication to drive but the dash gauge may show a fixed or blank reading, and some model years throw a warning code that has no effect on operation. Confirm with the pack seller that they’ve had the specific ELiTE year running on their pack, and budget for an external meter.
