If your cart has six 6V batteries under the seat (a 1994 to 2009 EZGO TXT, a pre-1995 Club Car DS, or an older Yamaha G-series), it’s a 36V cart, and it needs a 36V lithium pack. You cannot drop a 48V pack in without replacing the controller, solenoid and usually the motor. The good news is that 36V lithium packs have caught up with the 48V market: the same brands, the same 200A BMS designs, chargers in the box. This guide compares the ones owners buy most, from manufacturer listings and datasheets, and explains which fits which cart.

Short answer: For a stock 36V EZGO TXT, Club Car DS or Yamaha, the Vatrer 36V 105Ah is the established pick: 200A BMS, Bluetooth app, standard drop-in footprint. Want everything in one box, buy the DC HOUSE 36V 100Ah kit with its 25A charger; on the tightest budget, the LOSSIGY 36V 100Ah kit. Lifted carts and hills need the Cloudenergy 36V with its 250A BMS, because a 36V cart pulls more amps than a 48V one for the same power. Expect 14 to 20 miles from a 100Ah pack, and make sure the charger has your cart’s plug (Powerwise D on a 36V TXT).
OUR TOP PICK

Figures from manufacturer Amazon listings and product pages as of September 2026. “36V” lithium packs run at 38.4V nominal; energy is calculated at that voltage. Peak-current figures are only meaningful with a duration. Charger plug type varies by bundle; confirm it matches your cart before ordering.

How to Read That Table

Range on a 36V cart

A 36V 100Ah pack holds about 3.84 kWh, of which roughly 3.5 kWh is usable. On a stock TXT or DS in normal use (around 200 to 250 Wh per mile) that’s 14 to 17 miles; on flat ground with a light load, 20 or more. That’s comparable to a healthy set of six 6V lead-acid batteries and noticeably better than a tired one, because lithium can be run to 90% depth where lead-acid should stop at 50%. The 120Ah Cloudenergy adds about 20% to those figures. The full method is in the range guide; the math is the same, just at 38.4V instead of 51.2V. The range calculator has a 36V setting.

BMS continuous current

Because a 36V system runs at lower voltage, it draws more current than a 48V cart for the same power, which makes the BMS rating slightly more important here, not less. A stock 36V TXT with a PDS controller is comfortable on 200A. A lifted 36V cart on big tires, or one with an upgraded controller, is where the Cloudenergy’s 250A rating earns its keep. If the cart cuts out on hills after the swap, the BMS limit is the first thing to check: golf cart lithium BMS cutoff explained, and the 250A logic in full in best lithium battery for hills and lifted carts.

The charger plug

Most 36V carts on the road are EZGO TXTs, and they use the D-shaped Powerwise plug unique to 36V EZGOs. Pre-1995 Club Car DS carts and the 36V Yamahas (G1 through G16, 1979 to 2002) use the two-blade crowfoot. A bundled charger with the wrong plug isn’t useless, but you’ll need an adapter. Check the listing names your cart, or buy a charger separately. Every plug by make and year is pictured in golf cart charger plug types, and the old lead-acid charger is not an option: why a lead-acid charger fails on lithium.

Should you go to 48V instead?

Only if you want more speed and torque badly enough to also buy a 48V controller, solenoid and (usually) motor, $600 to $1,500 on top of the battery. For most owners who just want lithium’s weight saving, maintenance-free running and longer life, staying at 36V is the sensible call. Our 36V vs 48V guide covers the full upgrade if you’re tempted.

The Picks in Detail

Vatrer 36V 105Ah: Best Overall

The 36V equivalent of Vatrer’s 48V flagship and, by Amazon’s own volume figures, the most-bought 36V pack on the platform. 200A BMS, Bluetooth app for true state of charge, standard drop-in footprint. Note that this pack’s UL listing status differs from the 48V version; check the current listing if certification matters to you. Sold with or without a charger; the kit version lists the plug options.

Best for: stock 36V TXT, DS or Yamaha owners who want the established option.
Watch for: the no-charger listing; plug type on the kit.

DC HOUSE 36V 100Ah Kit: Best Complete Kit

Metal case, 25A charger, monitor and Bluetooth in one box. The 25A charger is a real advantage on a 36V system: it refills a 100Ah pack in roughly four hours versus six-plus on the 18 to 20A chargers some competitors bundle. The metal case suits utility carts and anything that lives outdoors.

Best for: first-time converters, utility and farm carts.
Watch for: choose the kit variant with your cart’s plug.

LOSSIGY 36V 100Ah: Best Budget Kit

LOSSIGY’s 36V pack is one of the longest-running lithium golf cart listings on Amazon and currently carries an Amazon’s Choice badge in the category. 200A BMS, 1000A peak, 25A charger included. Plastic case, no touch monitor; that’s where it saves money against the DC HOUSE kit. There are several LOSSIGY 36V listings with slightly different bundles; compare what’s in the box.

Best for: stock carts on a budget.
Watch for: multiple near-identical listings.

OGRPHY 36V 100Ah: App and Monitor Alternative

Same core spec as the LOSSIGY (200A BMS, 1000A peak, 25A charger) with a touch monitor and app included. One of the more-reviewed 36V packs on Amazon. If you want the display without paying for a metal case, this is the natural middle option.

Cloudenergy 36V with 250A BMS: Best for Hills and Lifted Carts

The only 36V pack in this group rated above 200A continuous. On a lifted 36V cart or one with an upgraded controller, the extra headroom is the difference between holding speed on a grade and the BMS tripping. Ships with a 20A charger, touch monitor, app, port plug and a retention strap; Cloudenergy is one of the few brands that includes hold-down hardware.

Best for: lifted carts, big tires, hilly terrain.
Watch for: the 20A charger is slower than the 25A units above.

Cloudenergy 36V 120Ah: Best for Range

High-capacity 36V packs are rarer than 48V ones; this 120Ah is the practical top of the range on Amazon. About 20% more energy than a 100Ah pack, roughly three extra miles on a typical cart, with a 200A BMS and a 20A charger. Worth it if you routinely run the pack down; overkill for a cart that does a few miles a day.

Best for: long days, large properties, six-seat 36V carts.
Watch for: confirm tray clearance; higher-capacity packs are often taller (dimensions in the size chart).

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I put a 48V lithium battery in a 36V golf cart?

Not without replacing the controller and solenoid, and usually the motor. A 36V controller will fault or fail on 51.2V. Buy a 36V pack, or plan the full 48V conversion as a separate project.

How far will a 36V 100Ah lithium battery go?

Roughly 14 to 20 miles on a stock cart depending on load and terrain, and less on a lifted cart with big tires. That’s similar to a fresh set of six 6V lead-acid batteries and better than a worn set.

Which golf carts are 36V?

EZGO TXT and Medalist 1994 to 2009, EZGO Marathon, Club Car DS through 1994, Yamaha G1 through G16 (electric models), and various older utility carts. Count the batteries: six 6V units means 36V. Full table in the fitment guide.

Do I need a new charger for a 36V lithium conversion?

Almost always. The stock Powerwise or Club Car charger uses a lead-acid profile. Most kits above include a lithium charger; make sure its plug matches your cart.

Will lithium make my 36V cart faster?

Top speed stays the same; it’s set by the controller and motor. Acceleration and hill climbing improve because lithium holds voltage under load and the cart loses 200 to 300 lb.
